Show Cadmus Club Met October 26 At Harding Home in Provo Wednesday evening, October 26, Cadmus Club members met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Harding in Provo. President Fae Belliston greeted the members and expressed the appreciation of Cadmus members to the Hardings for the invitation to meet in their attractive home. Mrs. Harding, a gifted pianist, gave an excellent review of the life of Peter Ilich Tchaiskovsky and presented several piano selections illustrating the versatility and range of his ability as a composer. Peter Ilich Tschaikowsky (1840-93) was the first Russian composer to gain international popularity outside Russia. He is regarded as the master composer of classical ballet which is demonstrated by his score for Swan Lake, The Nutcracker, and Sleeping Beauty. Tchaiskovsky was one of the worlds best known symphonic composers. He also had a remarkable gift for writing melody. His melodies are so simple and direct that some of them have become popular songs. Mrs. Harding accompanied Mr. Reynold Heiner, a well known tenor, as he added to the enjoyment of the evening and sang several of Tchaiskovsky 's well known compositions. Delicious refreshments were served by hostess Afton Atkinson, sister of Mrs. Harding, and co hostesses Marjorie Holdaway and Elaine Walker. |
