That's just what the Vikings did in handing the Utes three losses; sophomore, J.V. and varsity. VARSITY PG hit on 30 of 49 field goal attempts. That's a blistering 61 percent. Guards Gary Jackson and Bret Frampton led the the double teaming defense that put the game out of reach in the first half, 38-14. Baskets by Jackson, Tom Strasburg and a three point play by Layne Butt gave PG a quick 9-2 lead. A Uintah time out was followed by a Gary Monsen outside shot and nice inside move and score from Rick Gardner, making the score 9-6 9-6 with 2:52 left in the first period. Butt hit the next five shots he took, soft jumpers from the top of the key, and with Ray Walker adding eight points in the second period, the Vikes posted a 24 point half-time margin. PG hit on 27 of 34 free throws. That's an unusually high number considering the Vikes were doing the pressing. But Coach George Hughes sagging man to man defense sent Walker, to the line 10 times.
