Show On the Local Scene ... Harvey and Fugal Win in State Representative, School Board Race With the big papers giving you the news about the national and state races, we will only cover for the Nov. 2 election news the local races and local issues, which are of interest to our townspeople. In a close race, 4,447 to 4,101, incumbent David Harvey Har-vey defeated E. Mark Bez-zant Bez-zant for District 34 State representative. Delmar Reay, American Party candidate got 275 votes in this race also. In the race for county commissioner, Kenneth J. Pinegar and Karl R. Lyman, both Republicans, defeated their two Democrat candidates, can-didates, Allen D. Warner and Leslie D. Brown. Neither race was too close, with the winners win-ners getting around 15,000 more votes than their opposition op-position candidates. In the two school board races, Daniel Boyd Fugal and Jay F. Harmer finished almost even as political races go, with Fugal getting 2,701 votes and Harmer 2,596, only 105 votes away. This was a very close race and looked like the voters would have been glad to settle for either candidate. In the other school board race, which some precincts locally voted in, Frank C. Greenwood, incumbent, was defeated by Dr. David R. Haymond. This race had only 3 precincts from Pleasant Grove in, and the rest lapped over into American Fork. Bond Votes Pass In two other local ballots dealing with local affairs, both the vote for improvement im-provement of the Park and the vote which allows us to bond for a combined sewer c.omDlex with three other cities, passed. The park vote was 2,008 to 1056, which was good, as we really need to move ahead in this direction, and the sewer vote passed in Pleasant Grove 1,597 to 1,382, and it also passed in the other three cities so that it now leaves the cities with the power to go ahead with this project if it proves feasible. Passing the bond will only open the way for this project, and the city can still pull out of it if they think it is not the thing to do. Well, the voting is over and we need to get down to business now. Let's hope the commentators don't spend the rest of the year analyzing how and why the politicains lost their races. Let's just move ahead with the necessary adjustment new faces in office call for. if tf m ',", w "t'Vf |
