Fork 756-228- 4 Local Ladies Give Program for Blind in Provo At the program for the blind citizens of Utah County held each Monday afternoon at the Eldred Center at Provo, Mrs. Keith Bezzant played two vio-lin selections, a medley of Strauss waltzes. She was ac-companied by Mrs. Robert Morehead Jr. who also played a piano concerto in D Minor by Rubenstein, and To a Water Lily by Lehman. Mrs. Harold S. Walker gave three humorous readings, "A Bit of Sunshine," "The Doctor and the Mechanism" and "How Old Are You?" Mrs. Jessie Wadley of Man-ila, whose sight is impaired by her 87 years, expressed ap-preciation for the program and for the efforts of those in charge who arrange for these entertaining programs for the blind. Mrs. Wanda Gourney of Lehi was. in charge of making arrangements forthe occasion. Irene G. Thomson Vill Get Award For Extension Work LOGAN "She is dedicated to those in need and guides pro-grams to help homemakers who have tremendous loads to car-ry." That's how one extension leader describes Irene G. Thom-son, Utah State University Ex-tension home economist in Utah County. Mrs. Thomson's achieve-ments as an extension worker will be noted later this month when she will be presented a distinguished service award by the National Association of Ex-tension Home Economists dur-ing their annual meeting in New York. The Award is given each year to eight persons in recog-nition of home economics ac-complishments and programs they have implemented in their local counties. As a USU Extension home economist since 1963, Mrs. Thomson has been extensively involved in programs and pro-jects serving all segments of the county population. She is chairman of the Nu-trition Education Council and has worked with a nutrition program for the elderly to meet the meal needs of senior citi-zens, especially those with low incomes. She has been instrumental in a program that provides one hot meal a day, five days a week, to older citizens. And she supervises 10 EFNP (Expanded Food and Nutrition, Education Program) aides, as part of the nutrition program in her coun-ty.
