Show Alpine School District Enrollment Up 400 in 74 Alpine School District enrollment en-rollment as of Sept. 6 totaled 19,531, representing about a 400-student increase according to a report issued recently to members of the districts board of education. A total of 10,560 students were enrolled in elementary schools, 4,050 in junior high schools and 4,767 in senior high sohools. It was noted that some high schools include ninth ninth grades. An additional 154 students are enrolled in special education educa-tion programs in the district. Supt. Dan W. Peterson talked talk-ed about growth in the district and said he expects it to continue con-tinue at the rate of about 400 students a year. He said the district has grown at that rate for several years. An elementary elemen-tary school holds about 400 students he said. Dr. Peterson cited a trend toward increased enrollments in grades below the fourth grade. "This is the thing that frightens me," he said. Currently, some buildings in the district are overcrowded because of the rapid growth rate and school building funds are committed for at least the next two years, he said. The superintendent has noted not-ed that enrollment usually falls off in the higher grades. District officials also discussed discuss-ed the possibility of double-ing double-ing some sixth grades into junior jun-ior high schools. |
