Calvin Walker Gets Science Educator Award for 1972 The Utah Science Teachers Association presented to Calvin Cal-vin Walker, former principal of the Central Elementary School, the Science Educator Awards for 1972, recently. Mr. Walker received a desk plaque and a certificate, which read as follows: In recognition of the many facets of his teaching career, that have enriched the lives of others, as an avid naturalist, his desire, enthusiasm, and ability ab-ility to place students in natural na-tural environments, and his talent tal-ent in fostering innovative and exemplary techniques of study there, have been hallmarks of his career. Numeroqus teachers and administrators who have worked with him have caught the vision of his work, and hundreds hun-dreds of students have been the benefactors. His unmatched dedication, resourcefulness, persistence, i and leadership have contribut- ed significantly to the development devel-opment and establishment of outdoor education programs in the Alpine School District and in the State of Utah. Working patiently and diligently he has guided the Alpine program to one of great interest and prom- I inence. j His love for the outdoors i has carried over into the Scouting Scout-ing program and into other church and civic functions. He has been a tireless worker in j these endeavors. Untold numbers num-bers of students, teachers and j community people have bene- j fited from his masterful, unassuming un-assuming leadership; from his rich bankground in the natural sciences; and from his genuine genu-ine personal concern for his f ellowmen and the for the earth (Continued on page 5) Calvin Walker (Continued from page 1) i ! that sustains them. Few men ! in any era of time have de- veloped these attributes as ful-! ful-! ly as he. i His intense interest in In dian ruins, writings, picto-graphs, picto-graphs, and legends has led him far afield innumerable times. He has been much in demand for his interesting presentations pre-sentations and lectures. Authoring Auth-oring a book on the Legend of Timpanogos was another milestone. Beloved and endured as a ! personal friend, teacher, prin-I prin-I cipal, and leader, his career j has been an inspiration to all who have known him. In ap-j ap-j preciation for years of dedicated dedica-ted effort, service and leadership lead-ership this award is proudly given. J Mr. Walker retired last year I and this award, given him af- ter his retirement, is a fitting climax to a long carrer as a very fine educator. |
