INVITES LeAnn Walker, secretary at Utah Technical College at Provo invites everyone to attend Fourth Annual Open House to be held Friday and Saturday, Mar. 6 and 7. Trade Tech Community Open House Slated Friday, Saturday Approximately 20 major ex-hibits, each covering an area of study at Utah Technical Col-lege in Provo, will await the general public this Friday and Saturday at the school's fourth annual community open house. Utah Tech has 17 major de-partments of trade and voca-tional training, and each will have a major display, accord-ing to President Wilson W. Sor-ense- n. In addition, there will be several special exhibits of pro-grams which the school spon-sors such as its fireman training, he said. Open house hours will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Fri-day, March 6, and 9 to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 7. Anyone in-terested is invited, emphasized President Sorensen, but partic-ular emphasis will be placed on attracting prospective students and their parents particul-arly high school graduates or those who will graduate this year. A high school diploma is not necessary to enter Utah Tech, the president said, but many young people prefer to finish their regular public schooling before embarking on special training toward a trade or vocation. The 17 departments which will feature special exhibits and tours include auto body, auto mechanics, diesel mech-anics, office education (secre-tarial training, data process-ing and general clerical train-ing), building construction (car-pentry and cabinet making), dental assisting, electronics, el-ectrical and automation tech-nology, drafting and design, commercial art, machine shop, welding, licensed practical nur-sing, instrument repair, driver education, marketing, and gen-eral education (optional cours-es which a student may take to qualify for the school's two-ye- ar associate degree.) About 2,000 attended the op-en house last year, and ar-rangements are being made to take care of an even larger day, President Sorensen con-cluded. 'Metropac' Will Offer Wider Area For Telephoee Use A new optional telephone service, "Metropac," will be introduced in the Pleasant Grove, American Fork and Le-- hi areas in late 1971, according to W. Merrill Hymas, district manager for Mountail Bell. Metropac is an optional ser-vice which for an additional single monthly charge expands the customer's toll-fre-e calling area to telephones in all ex-changes within a radius of 24 miles of the local telephone of-fice, he said. The service will provide custo-mer- dialed toll-fre-e calling from Pleasant Grove as far north as Murray, Holladay and Park City, east to Heber and south to Payson. The new ser-vice does not permit incoming calls to be dialed toll-fre-e, Hy-mas explained. Engineering studies are pres-ently underway to determine how much additional equip-ment is needed to provide Met-ropac. While rates for the new ser-vice will not be definitely de-termined until all studies are completed, present indications are that an additional monthly charge of $12.90 for a business service, $4.80 for a one-par- ty residence, and $4.15 for a two-part- y residence line will be made for Metropac toll-fre- e calling. In addition to Metropac, lo-cal calling will be extended in early 1972 to include Orem in the Pleasant Grove calling area This service will be provided to all customers in the Pleasant Grove and Orem areas. With the establishment of lo-cal service between Orem and Pleasant Grove, plans call for Pleasant Grove basic rates to increase 20 cents per month for two-part- y service, 25 cents for individual residence customers and $1.20 per month for a bus-iness line.
