Show "Itvsbilfty and Environment" is Stressed Sy IJvida Speaker Installation of new officers and a challenge to preserve "livability and environment" in community growth highlighted the third annual Utah Valley Industrial Development Association Assoc-iation installation banquet Monday Mon-day night. Wayne S. Winters of American Ameri-can Fork was installed as president pres-ident of UVIDA in ceremonies directed by David B. Haight of the executive committee. B. E. Jensen of Provo is vice presi dent and Commissioner Stanley D. Roberts of American Fork was retained as secretary and treasurer. The advice that cities striving striv-ing to attract new industries for maintaining and improving must not forget their obligation community environment and livability was given by John F. (Jack) Chandler, guest speaker Mr. Chandler is manager of area development for Colorado Interstate Gas Company, Colo- rado Springs, Colo. Disclosing that expansion of his company, a subsidiary of Colorado Interstate Corporation could mean economic gains for Utah and more orders for the Geneva Steel Pipemill, Mr. Chandler said agreement has been reached for purchase by CIG of the Pacific Northwest Division of El Paso Natural Gas for $100 million. If approved by the Federal Power Commission, CIG should have operating possession by July 1969 and when this takes effect, the company plans to add 25 employees immediately to the Salt Lake office, boosting the payroll to 125. By July, 1970 another 25 employees em-ployees would be added in Utah Meantime Mr. Chandler reported, re-ported, feasibility studies will begin in 1970 for a pipeline extending ex-tending from Wyoming diagonally diagon-ally through Utah to Los Angeles. An-geles. This project would begin in about 1973 and if competitive factors are right, Geneva Steel would produce the pipe. Max C. Elliott, outgoing UVIDA UV-IDA president, was master of ceremonies. Mr. Haight presented pre-sented plaques to Mr. Elliott, outgoing president; Mr. Winters, Win-ters, outgoing vice president; Mr. Roberts for his service as secretary-treasurer and G. Marion Hinckley, retiring board member. New president, Mr. Winters, supervisor of agriculture at Geneva Works, paid tribute to the officers and board and appealed ap-pealed to government units, C of C, civic clubs and individual citizens to join unitedly in the UVIDA cause. Approximately 150 persons-including persons-including community leaders from most cities and towns in the valley, attended the banquet ban-quet at the Wilkinson Center Skyroom. |
