With approximately 2,000 Cubs, Guides, Scouts, Explorers Explor-ers and Ensigns participating the Scout-O-Ree will feature more than 100 booths that display dis-play to the public skills learned learn-ed in the scouting program. Scout officials expect to have more than 6,000 people see the exhibits, talent show, and special spec-ial contests during the 5-9 p.m. program. Theme for the Scout-O-Ree is "Boy Power - Man Power," an eight-year slogan introduced last month into the scouting program by the naional headquarters. head-quarters. The Utah National Parks Council, which covers Utah south from the Point-of-the-Mountain and Wasatch County Coun-ty east to Colorado and south to Arizona Nevada, has appointed ap-pointed Dr. William G. Dixon, a Provo surgeon, as general chairman of the Scout-O-Ree. "Participation in these booths and displays helps the boys become be-come a part of the team effort, gives each one a chance to show his skills, helps him mature ma-ture in his actions, and provides pro-vides him with a chance to meet the public," reports Dr. Dixon. A total of 11 trophies will be awarded to troops and packs along with a special piontering trophy, a sweepstakes trophy and trophies for special races. Two special races for Cub Scouts always add spirit to the occasion. These are the Pine-wood Pine-wood Derby, races in which homemade cars dash down a ramp nearly the length of the basketball floor and the Space Derby, racts between propeller driven rockets attached to a wire running from one balcony of the fieldhouse to the other end of the playing floor. Also highlighting the Scout-O-Ree is the annual talent show, directed by Leonard James of Springville. Tryouts for the 45-minute 45-minute talent show will be held March 20 at 7:30 p.m. in the Springville Stake House. The public is invited to attend at-tend the Scout-O-Ree.
