Show national guard battery A returns froni from encampment Mch mcafield field unit had largest battery present 3 officers and 48 46 men 1 battery A armed FA bil returned to their home station sunday after having spent two fuu full weeks at camp W G williams at jordon narrows the richfield unit had the largest battery present in the group with 46 enlisted men and three officers the high degree of training received was supple supplemented dented with firing of the 30 caliber carbine 30 cal machine guns 45 cal sub machine guns 50 cal machine guns throwing of live high explosive hand grenades and rocket launchers and one full day of firing their primary weapon the self propelled mm min howitzer each man went through the gas chamber during them the training also food during the encampment was excellent and plentiful tho the regular post entertainment of theatre P X swimming pool and rifle range was augmented oy by shows and entertainment I 1 brought in from outside tallent such as the B Y U and the red cross passes to salt lake city and vicinity also to pleasant grove for strawberry days were plentiful training ceased for one and one half days over the weekend vee kend for passes and relaxation weather was wonderful until they returned to richfield where they were the recipients of a tithing storm the end of camp was highlighted by pay day saturday afternoon ter noon with passes to salt lake city nearly was handed out to the 1500 men who came from every portion of the state according to col lowry R harris hams assistant utah adjutant g general the well deserved their pay directing officers observers e r s and inspectors all have labeled the encampment very satisfactory the observers and inspectors spec tors representing the sixth army selective service and camp lewis wash were unanimous in in their praise for the skill and espirit de corps they served their two weeks under brig gen J wallace west utah adjutant general and brig gen william F weiler troop commander colonel harris was executive officers of the encampment camp ment generals west and weiler as well as other high ranking 0 officers f declared it the best camp ever held at camp williams officers and men from the local guard included |
