Show reports on snow survey and supply of water the utah agricultural experiment station published on april 1 1937 a utah cooperative snow surveys and water supply forecasts and in reading it through we found the report on the sevier river which we felt sure would be of interest to our readers main sevier river watershed the water in snow storage on the sevier river watershed above salina Is higher this year than in any year since records have been kept the snow courses on the east fork except fish lake show from two to three times as much water as was in storage a year ago on the main fork of the sevier devler the water content averages percent of that in 1936 the primary rients on the sevier river have the best prospects for a water supply that they have had for years and there is also a greater holdover in the storage reservoirs the smaller reservoirs will fill and the larger one will approach spillway capacity in spite of the subnormal snow cover in northern utah the water supply prospects are good in southern and eastern utah the snow cover is above normal and the water supply prospects are better than for any year since 1922 due to the fact that above normal precipitation and temperature may bring the snow off quickly the following warning is justified all owners of reservoirs should examine the spillways spill ways and outlet works and should clean and repair the trash racks and see that gate operating devices are in working order stream channels charels should be cleaned of debris and head gates put in order to protect the canals canals shou should be cleal A 01 pa P city acety to td rel relieve peak flood flow through the lower areas |
