Show MAW MARY GRAHAM tt naru i i woodchucks among the animals who go to ale sleep oil all winter aro are tho the frogs toads turtles anah snakes es bears woodchucks wood chucka and a good many others but the ones who thought they had the best steep of nil when they awoke this spring were tho the little prairie dog they always go to sleep even if in the zoo and they dig their holes in tile ground where they burrow down when tho the weather becomes chilly mr woodchuck la Is like us said peter prairie tog dog barking his funny funn little bark of course he be la is our cousin I 1 mr woodchuck Is 11 like us in tile tho way lie ho sleeps he will not budge nil all winter long nor show any sign of life when lie ho la Is sleeping tile tho farmer always knows that WILL spring has come when the woodchuck appears ile he goes into one of his holes and shuts off the other two which lie he has in tho the summer time for lie he has haa quite a fine house has mr woodchuck nut but if lie ho should be disturbed by anyone in the cold weather he will anti their holes in the tha ground play rolled up to in a ball and will not open hla his eyes now dmd again he will grunt all now we sleep in much the same way dut but we are different mr woodchuck la is very sorrowful which means the same as sad Us he gets the blues and becomes grumpy and unhappy and we are always pleasant often when they think we are barking we wb are really laughing for we laugh with our tails its fine to be able to laugh forwards and backwards backward st I 1 we like a great deal of the sams same food as mr woodchuck does roots and vegetables but oh carrots are the favorite dish of the prairie dogs we never make pets though were pleasant and cheerful its just that thal were not fond of becoming tame and mr woodchuck Is like us in that respect too but to think of ever being unhappy in this beautiful spring and sum mer world for as long as we sleep in the winter we have no worry at all and the dogs barked happily as they ran to join their broth ers era and cousins after having heard peters talk |
