of the tertiary age w worked on a scale along the northern portion of the mt J baldy range the quartzite bedding capped with limestone was profoundly fissured folded and faulted so great was ivas the last named oc currance that the quartzite and limestone entirely disappeared under the more recent eruptive rock masses to the east of the sevier fault see accompanying compa nying maps and left the quartzite and limestone in the form of a lofty precipice kno known wn i as the deer trail escarpment to the southwest of marysvale Marys mar av vale from those yawn yawning int fissures enormous masses of rhyolite and bell eye porphyry oozed up from the earths melted interior and formed mountain masses thousands of feet deep again the unstable crust quivered with intense seismic forces the old and but partially healed wounds were opened and now new fissures formed in the overlying eruptive mass and great dykes of highly mineralized porphyry now mark the location and direction of those ex extending 1 from froin gold mountain south a distance of some ten miles a great fissure was formed from the surface down to the region M of liquid fire the mighty dorco which split the northern portion of the mt baldy ran range rane e also formed lateral fissures extending easterly and westerly from the great central fissuring of the phonolite occurred and in connection with other fissures already formed became channels for the upward and catteral lat teral how flow of gold and sil ver bearing solutions extinct craters fields of dark colored tra chite ridges of volcanic bree breccia cia dykes and chimneys of obsidian in the phonolite prove that local volcanic forces were continued over a long period after the widespread wide spread eruptive activity had ceased THE PRESENT AND FUTURE
