Show V elfare PAYMENTS reach fort foli FIRST SIX MONTHS OF YEAR payments to 10 recipients of public assistance in utah under all programs during the first six months ot of 1945 totaled it was revealed in a report released during the week by the public welfare commission this amount was or three tenths ol of one per cent ceni higher than payments during the corresponding six months period of last year money for these payments the report pointed out carne came from federal state and county funds as provid ld ed by law under the financing ar ments set forth in the statutes of the federal government whose financial participation is restricted restricted under the social security act to old age assistance aid to dependent children and aid to the blind paid or 38 per cent of the total amount issued in the first halt half of 1945 the state of utah paid out out of sales tax funds or 47 per cent of the total and the 29 counties of utah paid or 15 per cent the largest portion of the paid during the period ending june 30 this year went to the needy aged of the state who received 69 per cent ot of the total or for the corresponding period last lasi year old age assistance amounted to second largest share of public assistance payments went to aid children made dependent because of the death incapacity or absence of parents this group received 29 per cent or of the total disabled and unemployable persons other than the needy aged dependent children or blind received eight per cent of the total or the remaining four per cent of the payments for the first firs half or of the year was distributed among the following foster care care of indi gents in institutions aid to the blind sight conservation burials bu rials aid to employ ables and aid to transients cost of administering these assistance programs and operating the several welfare service programs in the department totaled for the six months period which added to the amount paid out for assistance brings the total expenditures to for the first six months of the year expenditures for the corresponding period last year was of which administration and welfare service program operating costs amounted to these amounts do not include expenses of operation and maintenance of bf state institutions and the juvenile courts which also are under the jurisdiction of the department of public welfare |
