Show uncle david meson matheson dies at daughters home david matheson jr Pa rowans oldest anale resident who would have been 90 years old had he lived until october 9 passed away here late tuesday afternoon atthe home of his son in law and daughter mr air and sirs mrs joseph E ward death was s due to causes incident to his age and only a day after ho he had been brought home from salt lake city where he had submitted to an operation he had been seriously ill for the past month and had been in poor health for the past several years funeral services are being beine held for him this friday after afternoon in the west ward chapel david matheson uncle davy as he has been affectionately called by a large part of Pa rowans citizens for many years was born bom october 9 1885 at dundee scotland a son of david and barbara laird matheson ile he worked in the industries of that city during his early years and on january 7 1878 was married to sarah G robertson also of dundee they kept the conference house which provided a home for missionaries from utah for several years with his wife and small son henry he immigrated to america arriving in parowan carowan on november 5 1881 where he has made his home ever since he was associated with the dramatic association from the time of his arrival here and took part with this group in putting on theatricals for the entertainment of people in all communities muni ties in southern utah As an entertainer he was also a very able singer and has had parts on community and church programs of all kinds up until the last year singing his songs from memory he was a very devout member of the church of jesus christ of latter day saints and always its work he was kindly and genial and through this trait came to be known as uncle davy to all he was janitor for the parowan carowan school for many years when he had to fire eight or ten big wood burning stoves and remained in this job until after the high school came to parowan carowan Pa rowan after this he was janitor at the ward church for several more years until his eyesight and general health made it necessary for him to quit his wife passed away february 15 1926 and their surviving children are henry T matheson mcgill nevada mrs maggie macfarlane cedar city scott al matheson salt lake city david A angus B and kenneth R matheson mrs hugh L adam s mrs gates burt mrs lillie ward and mrs bess miller of paro wan all of whom are here at this time he is also survived by fifty eight grandchildren and forty six great grandchildren he has seventeen grandsons and grandson in law in the armed service all but two having been overseas ile he is also survived by one sister mrs mary M marsden |
