Show coonc I 1 revises wages of appointive officers an upward revision of the wage scale along with a revision of the duties of some of the appointive em aloyes of parowan carowan city was made at the tuesday night meeting of the city council for some time past most of these employees have been di satisfied with the pay they were getting and some of them have made arrangements to leave their jobs in the city for others paying higher wages therefore it finally became necessary to either meet these peoples demands or hunt other men to take their place and in this connection no one was very interested in taking over these positions at the rate of wags wages paid so the council felt it was the wiser move to retain the present employees at a higher wage than to risk any changes and take on less experienced perien ced men in those places under the new plan there will be three operators at the hydro elec plant 0 W orton frank mor and ancil J adams with the first named as plant superintendent this will make it possible for howard ward to be employed as lineman mi an in the city to take care of any repairs or new construction needed the lines in the city have received very little attention for some years and are therefore getting in bad condition and a new line will have to be constructed down the lane this summer if materials are available ward and clifton halterman superintendent of the city water system are to work in cooperation with each other also to save hiring extra men as much as possible this also leaves the city without a marshall amarshall for the time being until someone can be found for the job and until that time mr adams will do some night duty after his day shift at the plant but this arrange ment wont be tor for long mr adams will continue to receive per month frank is raised from to per month 0 W orton is raised from to and howard ward from to under the new schedule ward will read the power and water meters a and nd the men at the plant will take care of the forbay and probably the wells in the canyon when they are in use and to provide the extra funds to meet this raise in the cost of operating and maintaining the power plant and lines and to take care of the increased cost of all supplies and materials used in the upkeep of the plant and system the council at the same meeting passed an ordinance revising upward the light and power tates rates that have been in effect since the new plant was put in the canyon the ordinance giving the new rates is published on the back page of this paper and is to go into effect on july 1st ast with the raise to be reflected in the bills patrons will receive on august As has been said before the hy dro electric committee and the council itself has spent much time in trying to figure a schedule that will effect all people in about the same proportion and the average raise raise has been held to 20 per cent but due to discrepancies in the old rate some classes of users will find their bills raised considerably higher than that but there is one thing that the committee and council has made sure of and that is that the average user of power in parowan carowan city is still going to pay less for this power than in any other city or town in the state our rates are still lower than any in the state except in the case of our smallest users and lower minimums in one or two other cities make their rates a trifle lower for users of from 10 to 20 kilowatts kilo wats in planning for a suitable observance of independence day here the council decided to ask the paro wan service mens wives club to take over this days observance and to get what help they need in putting over an appropriate celebration with the city to furnish the club with the usual amount of expense I 1 money As the hea heating ting plant which was I 1 ordered last fall tor for the C city ity office building has finally arrived the council spent much time in considering its installation it was decided to do this during the next two months and a committee consisting of mayor M mitchell itchell and councilmen lyman and ort orton on are in charge |
