Show parowan carowan canyon road oiling to start soon A state road commission surveying crew started work on tuesday of this week to stake out the first five miles of the parowan carowan canyon road in preparation for oiling that stretch within the next couple of months or as soon as oiling weather arrives this announcement was made to us on tuesday by watson adams clerk of the district road office in cedar city it is planned to put on a new coating of gravel twenty four feet wide from the post office corner to the mouth of the second lefthand left hand or the end of the present standard construction st then a 22 foot wide strip of oil mulch road will be laid for that distance if possible the state road crew has brought in the gravel crusher during the week and are now busy setting it up at the state pit northeast of town As soon as it is ready to go the crushed gravel will be hauled onto the road in preparation for an oil mix coat 4 inches thick the oiling will commence as soon as the gravel is in place the rest of the canyon road up main canyon is listed for a post war road project up to as far as the forest boundary at the dry fork no survey has been made on this road from the head of main canyon and the engineers will determine the route to be taken when the time comes it is expected that the forest service will complete comple td the road from the forest boundary to cedar breaks when th the state eState does its part the program advanced by the county postwar post war planning committee listed for this road as a post war project and it was approved by the county commissioners along with the rest of the program and sent in to the state with the recommendation ommen dation that the program be followed it was also listed as second on the list |
