Show CONTEST TO ACQUAINT SCHOOL STUDENTS POSTWAR POST WAR PROBLEMS provo to acquaint high school students with current and postwar post war problems three contests will be held in all high schools of the state one each in february march and april dr T earl pardoe chairman of the victory speakers bureau of the utah council of defense announced this week winners of the local school contest will compete in district contests district winners in division contests and division winners in n a state contest thes state finals will be held in salt lake city during the third week in april the first contest to take place the first week in february the second in march and the third in april sut sub ejects for discussion will be conservation of food how students can help to avoid inflation and caust cause an and d cure of juvenile delinquency the first contest will be strictly an oratorical contest not to exceed ten minutes the second an essay memorized not more than ten minutes and the third an extemporaneous speech of six minutes after a thirty minute round table discussion the districts of the state are no 1 cache and rich Coutie ns no 2 wasatch duchesne summit daggett and uintah no 3 box elder davis weber and morgan no 4 salt lake and tooele thoele no 5 utah and juab no 6 carbon emery grandman Grand San juan and wayne no 7 sanpete San pete sevier kane garfield and piute diute no 8 millard beaver iro iron n and washington school contests in every case will be determined by the public speaking departments of the individual high schools and they will compete in a district contest to be arranged by the districts themselves for each of the monthly contests there will be a division contest for northern utah and one for southern utah with 25 war bonds awarded the winners six in all the six divitis ion winners will compete in the state finals for the state championship and a 50 war bond prize district and division chairmen will be named later according to dr pardoe rules of the contests and reference material will be furnished the high schools through dan M whelan executive officer war services division of the utah council of defense from its office in salt lake city |
