Show 0 CIVILIANS ASKED TO GIVE UP PLEASURE TRIPS FROM DECEMBER 17 JANUARY 10 civilians are urgently requested by the office of defense transportation today to give up all pleasure trips on trains or intercity buses arm december 17 through january 10 civilians also were asked to defer even necessary travel whenever possible until after january 10 joseph B eastman director said willingness to put up with crowded travel conditions afforded no excuse for disregarding the request to stay off trains and buses during the holidays the point to remember he said is that civilians who take pleasure trips particularly over the oliday holiday h period make it harder or even impossible for railroads and bus lines to provide transportation for all members of the armed forces and for business men who must travel regardless of holidays previously mr eastman had asked all government agencies and all private employers to refrain from leaves or time off 9 granting rr vacation to employees where wh ere travel would be involved from december be cember 17 to january the request applies to every civilian mr eastman said 1 I must add that I 1 do not see how any civilian can ignore it in good conscience when all travel facilities are so bad ly needed to accommodate our men and women in uniform and those who must travel on war business holiday or no holiday |
