Show commissioners hold regular dec meeting routine business matters pert n ing to county business including land sales tax matters and receiving of several delegations occupied the county commissioners at their regular gular de december c ember meeting held on monday of this icek A delegation from the parowan carowan exchange club including R 11 L penton fenton arthur joseph and E ray lyman met with the buard board in regard to road u improvements in little creek canyon they asked that a road be built from paragonah Para gonah to connect with the road built by garfield county near little creek peak explaining that the present road from the horse valley junction through bear valle was impassable during wet weather and at this time of 0 the year and that there was much need of the road they explained that at present supplies including lumber cattle and farm produce must be transported from highway no 89 either by way of the zion mt carmel tunnel or around through clear creek canyon making costs in time and money very high they sold said that a through road via little creek canyon would greatly benefit iron and garfield counties and at present would aid in getting materials from that side of the mountain that are needed for national defense the commissioners promised full support in getting this road through clarence lamoreaux and elton jones of cedar city representing the southern utah livestock association cia tion met with the board and asked for an additional appropriation from county funds to help hell make a deficit on their show last fall the commissioners gave them the balance of the advertising fund which amounted to a total of they also asked that a permanent fund be set up by the commission to help sponsor a southern utah livestock show to be held in cedar city every year the latter matter was taken under advisement taylor miller assistant county road supervisor supe visor met with the commission in connection with road matters especially the little creek canyon road where he said people have been cutting trees and posts and drabing them down the ilie road causing many rocks to be dragged onto the grade com commissioner missioner H L adams made a motion that the county continue I 1 to be one of tile sponsors of the nursery schools in parowan carowan and cedar city and that the county appropriate prop 18 per month for ane maintenance of the schools during 1942 the motion passed H C parcells was appointed precinct justice of the peace for paro wan to fill the vacancy caused when ray H adams was appointed deputy sheriff the clerk was instructed to write to the beaver county commissioners and tell them that iron county would be able to do some work on the minersville Miners ville road later in the season and that they would meet with the beaver commission some time in january to discuss plans dr J J jenkins and mrs erma M ranson asked the commission to appropriate an additional amount for the maintenance of a county nurse and for the laboratory at the iron county hospital the commission changed its appropriation which has been to for 1942 the proposed budget for 1941 was to the commission for its approval and a hearing on same was set for 10 am december 31 |
