Show fire destroys much hay at J C robinson farm A fire caused by spontaneous combustion at the farm of james C robinson in the parowan carowan valley destroyed a goodly portion of a large stack of hay yesterday morn mom ign but the timely arrival of men from the neighboring farms and townspeople along with the city tire fire truck prevented what could have been a much greater loss As we understand it the fire broke out in a stack having three sections near where the second and third sections joined it was first seen by warren pendleton from his farm arm a above ove and he with other farmers rushed to the scene after sending his son to town for the fire tr uck as there is no telephone in that section water was turned out of the reservoir quite a distance above the stack yards and it got there about the same time as the fire truck and help from town that the fire pump did good work is proven by the fact that it kept two streams from two hose playing on the fire and bringing it under control without further spreading and while this was being done the men started moving hay from the stacks cutting down on each side ox 01 the fire and hauling it away to a safe distance by last evening the fire was isolated in the one section of the stack with much smaller loss than was expected at first no estimate of the loss has been made as we go to press but it is only a fraction of what it could have been but for the timely arrival of the fire truck and its handlers and other assistance the owners of the farm are very appreciative of the work done in saving their property and extend their thanks to au all who aided in any way |
