Show council sets may As city cleanup clean up day at the may meeting of the city council held last night instead of tuesday saturday may was set apart as cleanup clean up day in par owan it was decided to ask the exchange club to cooperate with city officials in outlining things for citizens to do on that day to make this a better healthier and more beautiful place in which to live special stress will be given to cleaning up yards around our homes and the ets immediately in front of them the removal of unsightly fences and outbuildings buildings out that have outworn their usefulness and then making an effort toward planting and our home surroundings our public parks may come in for attention at this time aso but the city officials urge all people to prepare to cooperate in in a big general cleanup of the city on that day in this connection the city council approved the recommendation made by the exchange club at the april meeting that the following men be named as a beautification planning committee W clair rowley howley howard joseph taylor miller alma hyatt and B R M benson A request from the local camp of the D U P asking that the city deed the old rock church and the ground fifty feet out from it on bac each h side to that organization was cons considered it was finally decided by the council that the city should lease the building and ground to the organization for a long i term period but to hold title to it so as to be better able to beautify it in in harmony with the rest of the church square making it one project it was reported that the city had been trying to get someone to plow the land on the square in preparation for a beautification project but that up to now no one had been found to do it it was therefore decided to get a tractor to do the work the city marshal was instructed to make a determined effort to put a stop to minors of the community getting liquor and tobacco this was done at the request of a committee from the two wards who are cooperating with the stake in a drive against the use of liquor and tobacco among minors some other matters of minor importance were acted upon along with the months bills against the city before the meeting adjourned |
