Show COUNTY DEFENSE BOARD STUD STUDIES IES production GOALS iron countes coun tys agricultural defense board met at 5 pm last monday to study production goals and map campaign plans for the coming food defense drive the meeting was under the direction of mr J M palmer chairman of the iron county defense board and was attended by the following delegates delegat cs from the utah state agricultural defense board graham S quate soil conservation service H herry arry H smith utah extension service and utah state agricultural college orvill L lee state AAA committee mr palmer gave a brief summary of the defense situations which has caused a shortage in certain food stuffs and a surplus of others lie ile said that utah had been asked by I 1 the secretary of u aure to increase her production of dairy products eggs and certain vegetables and field crops the secretary also I 1 asked for an increase in the i ter of beef and chickens and a decrease in the output of such foods as wheat and potatoes percentage of increase or decrease for each of these commodities was set for utah by the national farm defense board and were in turn broken down into county goals by the utah state agricultural defense board goals for iron county were set as follows 20 per cent increase in the slaughter of beef cattle 10 per cent in cerase in the slaughter of chick eps for meat per cent increase in the slaughter of turkeys for meat 85 per cent increase in eggs and 13 per cent increase in milk adjustments for certain field crops and canning crops were also noted wheat and potato goals have already been set through the national wheat and potato allotments mr palmer pointed out by seeding within these allotments he said farmers will be cooperating in decreasing creasan g these foods in keeping with the 1942 goals the defense board outlined plans for the sign up drive which will start about november 3rd ard in iron county the county was broken down inta several sections each under the jurisdiction of a farmer corn committeeman m I 1 or supervisor these men will visit every farmer and rancher in the county during the next few weeks and sign up work will be completed by december 1 in behalf of national defense I 1 mr palmer said we call upon each and every farmer in the county to do his best to bring his pr production into line with the county quotas on food output it lb IA as much our duty to comply with thi this s request of our government as it Is the duty of a draftee to report to his training station wb whay fi the sign up is completed and thi the results are tabulated we bafit to report that iron county is per cent up tc its quotas and wholeheartedly whole heartedly in line with national defense de ferise |
