Show YANKEE RESERVOIR CLOSED TO FISHING tho the yankee reservoir was closed to fishing monday august 12 by deputy game ward warden en claude macfarlane far it was deemed advise able to do this because fish in the reservoir were all hovering around the creek for fresh water and oxygen due to low water and smallness of the streams that feed the reservoir and the surface exposed to the direct lays of the sun the water has become warm and the oxygen has all been taken out causing many fish to suffocate some of the of the par owan gun and rod club spent several hours at the reservoir building and placing a flume from pole creek into the reservoir and drop ping the water some three feet so it would have a chance to pick up some oxygen so badly needed if the remaining fish in the pond are to be saved after the flume was placed and the water put into it fish began to accumulate around the fall so thick that the water was almost black with them no big fish were acen most of them averaging ave rabing about tn t n inches most of the fish that were found dead along the shore ed about three to six inches though some were seen that would be nire or ten inches long the largest fish found by the group was about 13 inches reports thursday night said the fish were dying fast and the condition was critical with many of the dead one weighing as much as 4 pounds wednesday and thursday a total of fish had been taken from the edge of the reservoir and buried by some of the members of at the local club and deputy game warden claude macfarlane far A dam was made around the mouth of the creek leaving a small pond of fresh water near the mouth so that the surviving fish could get into it |
