| Show THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE under our democratic form of Lovern government ment we elect officers and to look after our governmental functions providing however for an express expression io n of the public will through peaceable assembly and petition as well as through freedom of speech and of the press and if the officers wo we elect are I 1 conscientious in the performance of their duty they will ordinarily know wore wor about at out and do a ietta Iet tt job cf handlir our public affairs than if we were all dabbling in them we elect a board of education to conduit conduct our school affairs and they in turn employ a county ten deriT for technical a avice it conducive to best results for groups or factions to attempt to tell them how to run the schools on the other hand when an overwhelming wh elming majority of patrons of a school are not satisfied with specific acts or proposals of the board they are not beyond the realm of propriety in asking for reconsideration or even reversal of the boards action and the board members if they can satisfy themselves as to what their constituents or a substantial majority of them desire hesitate too much to accede to the wishes of that majority democracy works that way if in the current agitation involving the local school there are conditions or circumstances not generally known to patrons which justify the boards action it would seem that those patrons should be informed if all the facts are known and patrons still are definite about what they want it would be difficult to justify a denial of those wants ants 1 |
