Show AAA PLAN ASSISTS IN TREE PLANTING throughout TATE STATE S provisions ot of the AAA program for utah during the present year of fers an unusual stimulus to farm 1 tree planting reports J kwitney floyd ex tenison foerster foerst cr of the utah state agricultural college tree planting as an effective means of reducing wind and water erosion has been recognized for many years but during the past 15 years governmental action has been helpful is making this protection ion possible during 1940 the A A A program will assist every farmer I 1 in the state in a farm tree planting project under governmental assistance si each farmer may earn a maximum of 30 for tree planting dur ing this season payments will be made on the basis of per acre tor for trees planted in addition two other practices are available an allowance of 3 will be made for each acre of forest trees that were planted between july 1 1936 and july 1 1940 which are cultivated protected and maintained by re planting if necessary to keer keep a stand of not less than living trees per acre livestock must be kept out of the area and there must be sufficient cultivation to keep down weed growth trees should be irrigated when in need of water if possible in addition per acre will be allowed for planting forest trees tree s including shrubs beneficial to wildlife provided the plantings are protected and cultivated in accordance with good practice prior approval app roval of the county committee is required and detailed approved instructions as to time of planting methods of plantings and varieties that may be used will be furnished to each individual whose projects meets with their approval farmers interested in t these hese practices should acquaint themselves with the tree distributing program from the utah state agricultural college from which trees for these programs may be obtained mr air floyd advises in addition they should contact their A A A committeemen in regards to planting requirements and specifications |
