Show STATE HEALTH BOARD WARNS AGAINST DISEASE there were new cases ot of I 1 communicable diseases reported to the utah state board of health for the week ending august 18 according to a Aate statement ment released today by dr william M mckay acting state health commissioner this is a decrease of 33 cases from the previous week and of 38 hom the corresponding week last year these new cases of communicable disc disease ase included one case each of trichinosis undulant fever and tularemia trichinosis dr me kay says is not known to be widely prevalent in utah and is co contracted n from consuming improper ly cooked pork from infected hogs undulant fever and tularemia have been diagnosed in utah more frequently ly but they are not widely spread everyone should be careful however that the milk he consumes is clean and properly pas undulant fever comes from cows infected with bangs disease or from infected goats tularemia commonly known as rabbit fever on the other hand may be contracted from the bite of insects which have lived on infected rabbits or from handling the meat of infected rabbits in the process of preparing for cooking there was a decrease of 35 in the number of new cases of whooping cough reported a decrease of 9 in the number of cases of tuberculosis and one in the number of cases of pneumonia slight increases were reported for chickenpox chicken pox measles influenza and scarlet scar let fever even though this is the time of year dr mckay said when communicable muni cable diseases are less prevalent than at any other time they may and do spread through the carelessness 0 r indifference of 0 f those who are arc unfortunate elou enough gh I 1 to have contracted them it is our responsibility ic as citizens he pointed out to so canduci conduct ourselves that no other person will contract any communicable disease because of our carelessness or indifference people who are not well should feel obligated to find out the cause of their illness before they associate freely with other citizens |
