Show band gets highest rating in contests colier entries from parowan carowan high make good showing at provo meet parowan high school representatives the first ot of the week front from the state music contests in fiovo with flying colors and tine fine ratings ings in fix most of 0 the events in which they competed the band ot of course was at the head of the procession figuratively with a highly Sup superior rating for its playing superior tor for its marching arching in and excellent tor for its drum major though there were hak dozen other bands in the same class with ours class C which were given the highly super superior for rating probably none ot of them were given as little criticism as the par owan band such whitten by the judge as very tine fine interpretation good sense ot of balance Ver very fine quality good taste in interpretation pre tation both numbers worked out in great detail indicate how he leg aided mr air petersons group ills his only note of criticism is lound found on the judges comment sheet under the printed heading outstanding weak points where he says a little lack ot of virility without I 1 believe your band could have given us a little more solid etui dy tone at times under additional comment he adds this group shows a keen sense of appreciation and regard tor for a good musical tone there was not a harsh jarring note in the entire performance keep this ideal before them never let them lose this refinement but at the sams same time do not let them lose their virility at times they could have been a little more sturdy without suffering in quality comments on their playing ot of little giant march are clearly played with no lots of style and good expression for their rendition of entrance march of the tha peers which was the required contest number and princess their selected num re he gave A ratings throughout including beauty of tone volume control tempo expression phrasing rhythm precision smooth ness stage presence and artistic er h there was nothing but A ratings on the comment sheet in the parade contest the band was given a total of 93 points out of at a possible the scoring for this was made on oil the basis ot of 40 points tor for playing 10 tor for alignment 15 for cadence 10 tor for uniforms 10 for discipline and 15 for far maneuvers our score was 39 for playing 9 tor for alignment 11 for cadence 10 for uniforms 9 tor for discipline and 14 tor for maneuvers the saxophone ensemble which included vanda bennett marell dayles elmo orton orion and Ro robert Al matchell itchell Ml was rated good and likewise morris row leys trombone and claudia Pendle tons flute numbers merrill cornet V vanda anda Benn bennets etris saxophone carl cari richards baritone horn and morriss rowleys Row leys baritone vocal numbers were all rated excellent the trip to provo was made without accident we have heard no criticism regarding the conduct of 0 students from here and altogether the trip seems to have been a highly successful one |
