Show PT pioneers erect liberty pole though there had been a liberty pole erected the year before by the exploring party headed by parley P pratt on the site ot of what is now parowan carowan Pa rowan apparently it located just right to suit the pioneers or had fallen down or been removed at any rate they planted anither one it is revealed by perusal of their records continuing with their own story front from where we letl left off a week ago we read as follows friday the work on the road in the canyon was still going on and prest smith while looking at the road said it was a miracle to see what had been done in so short a time saturday january 1851 A fine liberty pole was raised in n the center of the corral and prest G A smith dedicated this pole of liberty and god monday january 1851 abbit 26 iteana went to haul logs tor for the meeting house bouse while others worked on the foundation hauling and laying rock etc six of ct our ur brethren arrived at our camp from california and will lay over one day to carry our mail thursday january 1851 most of the men are still working on the meeting house rained a little this aam anoon the first since we arrived here friday january 1851 president smith informed the brethren that there was no public work for today so everybody went to work to get gel logs and other materials tor for their own buildings after february of the year ahen hen they arrived the pioneers seem to have kept no day to day record merely recording occasional events probably the things considered the most important about awen rt iowen ly five entries on the record therefore he re chronicle the doings of the corn cool pany until the end of tho year these thesa we shall publish in the next two or three issues of the times and that will end our account ot the coming of the pioneers 1 |
