Show STATE unemployment COUNCIL MAKES suggestions in a letter received recently by 11 L adams chairman of 0 the board of it county commissioners and contact member of the state slate advisory council on unemployment relief t the c following 0 1 wing suggestions were made tor ifor hand handling ing tho the unemployment and relief problems rob lems 1 that charity and privation he be handled by the county commissioners ll as above set forth before making these suggestions the letter calls attention to the utah statutes which places this responsibility on the commissioners 2 that employment to be given shall be given only to those people who can call provide proof of 0 continuous residence in the county for the period ot of one year and that a apeci specific ci alc recommendation be made to all interests h ite rests in the communities to furnish employment to permanent residents 3 that wherever possible and ana feasible tho the walking day be reduced to six hour basis pay to be made on it the same basis that la 14 six hour day 4 that attention be brought to all municipalities that at any elections to be held dependent women be given gavell the he positions of judges tellers registrars etc tor for the election and that women be given the preference in this type of work whenever possible 5 that every edfort be put forth to impress upon the public the fact that in most instances one breadwinner per family should be allowed to work before consideration Is given to additional people from each family that married women whose husbands are regularly employed should give way to others in this emergency 6 that every effort be put forward at this time to impress upon the public in in general in the state the use of products manufactured and grown in the state calling particular attention to the tact fact that the use us of utah products Is a direct and powerful contribution to the relief of unemployment 7 that every effort be put forward to provide employment for workers wherever possible in pie preference to overtime work 8 that particularly in city county and state work in the event of 0 extra employment being necessary the unemployed be given a position in preference to using the system of allowing those already employed to absorb extra jobs 9 that in larger communities by community cooperation groups can furnish employment for the pur par pose of handling the snow problem during the winter hiring of night watchmen and other incidentals 10 in some localities it will be found possible through the floating of bonds or formation of special ira im districts to make street sidewalk and sewer improvements rebuild water systems and undertake numerous community enterprises which can be handled at this time most advantageously front from tile standpoint of labor and costs of material PT |
