Show Reprinted From FromA The Christian Science Monitor Friday March 19 19 1971 1911 A I Name i iii that town Bountiful Utah 1 By Cora Slaughter Special to The Christian Science h Monitor When a man starts looking for greater pastures for his flocks and herds hes he's liable to start a new settlement This happened to ne Sessions who on Sept 27 27 1847 moved his family and livestock nine miles north of the newly established Mormon settlement of Salt Lake City The founder Counder of Utah's second secondment settlement settlement settle settle- ment constructed a dugout and with skins for a roof enjoyed the privacy through the winter whiter With the spring of 1848 more than 60 new families joined to 3 share what they came to call caU the garden gardenspot gardenspot spot of Utah with its sloping hillsides nestling between the mountains and the Great Salt Lake At first these Mormon pioneers mostly mostly mostly most most- ly of English descent and with names such as Pace Stoker Holbrook Moss and Hatch named their new home Ses Ses- 1 N N N N N N N N NN N N NN N N N N Settlement It was also called by its ecclesiastical designation North Canyon Canyon Canyon Can Can- yon Ward In 1855 the inhabitants felt that they should have a name befitting their location location loca loca- tion and prosperity and officially chose i ithe the beautiful name of Bountiful These early settlers were education minded and voted in 1849 to erect a 11 school John C C. C L.
