Show FROM PRIVATE ORTON the following letter from william torton T orton will be of interest to his many friends camp dodge iowa nov 14 dear ones at home here I 1 am a long ways from home but considering everything I 1 feel fine and dandy we left salt lake city last sun day about 10 a in we stopped in provo a short time then went as far as thistle and laid over for 24 hours houra on account of a freight train wreck after leaving thistle we went over soldiers summit next day tuesday being in colorado when we got to salida calida they were holding a funeral over three soldiers that were killed in another wreck this test last wreck happened in the royal gorge coto coo just a few miles east of salida calida our regiment attended the funeral and paraded up and down main street we again took the cars care and as it was night we a all al went to bed waking up next mo morning I 1 g I 1 in push pueblo from here we went over the line into kansas kanas all I 1 saw until I 1 got to kansas city was corn hundreds of acres of it from kansas city we went to des moines iowa about 10 miles south of camp dodge we arrived at the camp this morning I 1 sure enjoyed the four days trav eling cling but I 1 never saw one place in all that distance that looked one half as good tome to me as parowan carowan they can talk as they please about utah being the last place on earth but let me tell you that ut utan is good enough for me and I 1 always alwais will 11 stand up for utah and her people we P and her religion to the best beat of my ability the infantry are the only regulars here the rest being drafted men all told there are about soldiers here and by the first of the year there will be I 1 been out around the camp veto yet so I 1 cant tell ou on anything about it but will do so later I 1 will close now with love to all write soon and often WILLIE |
