Show K t 1 z 1 r r rt t r a v 2 r ru r u T 1 ry fi f fr r k 4 r o I 1 fi f I CUBS WIN SIN AWARDS Earning many awards in the Cubs are arc front I 1 to r Bob Belson Mary Landen den mother Kent Haslam Back Jesse Patrick Bruce January 24 was the last time that Den 1 under den I mother Mary Landen met all I together for a pack meeting with Val Verda Third Wards Ward's Cub Scout Pack as five of the seven boys graduated as Tenderfoot Boy Scouts ALL FIVE of these boys who began 3 years ago in inthe inthe inthe the den under the same den mother have earned their Wolf Bear and ranks As they went along in the program program program pro pro- gram they compiled an outstanding outstanding outstanding out out- standing record of activity with at least a gold and silver arrow- arrow point and in most cases several several several sev sev- sevI I eral additional silver arrow- arrow points accompanied each advance advance advance ad ad- vance in rank THE FIVE outstanding Cub Scout graduates are Andrew Landen Bruce Borrowman Bill Taylor Brad Boman and Kent Haslam The other two members of the den Jesse Patrick Patrick Patrick Pat Pat- rick and Bob Nelsen who joined the den later will be turning 11 years old and graduating within the next few months In their W year all seven boys racked up a most enviable enviable enviable en en- viable record of cub activity in earning the activity pins There are a total of 15 of the pins available available available avail avail- able and possible for the boys to earn including Aquanaut artist craftsman engineer traveller sportsman showman forester scientist athlete naturalist geologist geologist geologist geol geol- ogist citizen and scholar OUTSTANDING was the fact that five of the boys Andy Landen Bruce Borrowman Borrowman Bill Taylor Talor Andy Landen and Brad Boman Kent Haslam Jesse Patrick and Bob Nelson achieved the unusual by earning all 15 of the pins and that the other two boys Bill Taylor and Brad Boman earned 14 of the possible 15 What kind of fine young men are they who aspire to and achieve the highest in Cub Scouting Den mother Mary Landen hopes they are the kind who will become Eagle Boy Scouts in about three years with this good start they have in scouting THE BOYS are Andy Landen 11 son of Wesley and Mary Landen W. S He is in Mrs Hansens Hansen's fifth grade class at Boulton Elem School where I he enjoys spelling and science as his favorite school subjects He found the Athlete pin the I hardest to earn particularly the five foot broad jump re re- re- re I Most enjoyable to toI I him was his last-earned last pin the craftsman because it was I fun making the things and the i boys could keep and use the things they made ANDYS ANDY'S SPARE time activities activities activities include music piano and the school violin program as aswell aswell aswell well as the harmonica harmonic karate lessons engineering and model making Bruce Borrowman 11 son of Ralph and Connie Borrowman Borrowman Borrowman Borrow Borrow- man West 2800 South is also in fifth grade at Boulton Boulton Boulton Boul Boul- ton in Allan Getz classroom He also found the athlete to be most difficult because of the short time allowed to make the 50 yard dash and OO 00 yard run BRUCE ALSO enjoyed earning earn earll ing the Craftsman pin because i he liked the they the i did I Helping the boys earn the thep I p Craftsman pin for several of them making it all 15 pins was Bill Taylor Senior Father of one of the boys who has a workshop workshop work work- shop in his home and whose efforts efforts efforts ef ef- ef- ef forts were much appreciated BRUCE'S FAVORITE school subject is math and in his spare time he particularly enjoys model building Typical of his age he has many enthusiasms I and interests including Skiing gunning archery football rockets model car racing bowling bowling bowling bowl bowl- ing swimming and billiards Kent 11 is another winner of all 15 activity pins He is the son of Clyde and Beth Haslam at 2918 S. S W. W He is in Mr Gene Karchner's fifth grade class and likes social studies best HE FOUND the Craftsman pin to be both the most difficult to earn because it was the last lap and the most enjoyable He also thought the Citizen pin was hard to earn because there were many things they had to do For fun Kent most enjoys silting sitting sit sil Jl- Jl ting in the blind with his dad while duck hunting He also likes bowling and fishing BOB NELSON almost 11 is the son of Duane and Joan Nelson Nelson Nelson Nel Nel- son at W. W 2800 S. S He is also in Mr Kartchner's fifth grade class at Boulton School and likes Social Studies best He found his last pin to be the hardest for him the Scientist He enjoyed the Aquanaut the best because he likes to swim Bob enjoys working with his microscope and telescope in his spare time and his stamp collection Bob was a transfer from a Cub Scout Pack in South Dakota before the family moved here last fall JESSE PATRICK son of Joe Joeand Joeand Joeand and Ethel Patrick S. S W. W will be 11 next month H Heis Hiis s sin in fifth grade in Mr Getz class at Boulton school and andis andis andis is another social studies lover He found the Craftsman pin pinto pinto pinto to be most difficult for him because because because be be- cause cause it was th the last one he earned and also because he needed constant supervision while working on it with the tools that can be dangerous to young boys His most enjoyable pin was the pin He plays the piano and enjoys going skiing when he can CUB PACK f forthe for forthe o r the three years of the Webe Webe- lo 10 Dens Den's activities has been Melvin ably assisted by his wife Clara We look forward to reading more about these boys in about three years when they are all honored as new Eagle scouts ml |
