Show Students to leave for Courchevel July 3 Twenty-six Park City High School students have signed up to participate in the Courchevel Cour-chevel exchange program this July, said School Superintendent Tony Mitchell. Mit-chell. The student exchange grew out of the sister city liaison which was initiated last winter. The students will be leaving on July 3 and returning return-ing on July 31. They will visit Brussels, Geneva, Paris and London but the highlight of the trip will be an 18-day stay with host families in Courchevel, said Mitchell. The cost of the trip for each student is $1,475. During their stay in Courchevel Cour-chevel the students will attend at-tend French classes at the Language Training Center. The board may grant up to V hour of language credit for the participants, said Mitchell. Mit-chell. To get the program off the ground, the only requirements require-ments imposed on the applicants appli-cants was approval from the high school principal. "In future years we may require a full year of French before the student can participate in the exchange program," said Mitchell. "I am very idealistic when it comes to the benefits of foreign travel," he said. "It reminds students that there is a big world out there of which this is just a small part." "This district needs to make a commitment to global education. We are finding out more and more that our economic and political welfare is dependent depen-dent on our understanding of different cultures." He added that he would like to see the school district offer a similar program to a Spanish speaking country also. |
