Show P. C. Kicks squeak past.logan in soccer game VS f 6"...'.. 'i, pri rift' n j n 4 : . The Park City Kicks got all the scoring they needed midway through the first half when Cheryl Johnson rocketed a shot past the goalie for a 1-0 win over the Logan soccer team. And while it might not have been the prettiest shot, it was certainly most welcome by the Kicks Saturday Satur-day at the Park City high school field. The play evolved when Roxanne Toly passed the ball to Johnson, who was on the left side of the penalty box. Johnson did not hesitate. Sensing a score, she fired the ball toward goal. The goalie played tight to the inside post and Johnson fired the ball just to the inside of the outside post. The Kicks were playing one Woman short, which if it were not for the aggressive play of team captain Nettie Franzen, would have put the team at a serious deficit. "Nettie was a saviour by far. She was superb on defense," said Kicks Coach Gary Moore. "Nettie is such a strong, fast player that she can catch people when they pass her and still get a shoulder or foot in to disrupt the play." Nina Cohen played well in her first appearance as goalie, Moore said she was not really pressured mostly most-ly because of the play of Franzen but when she was challenged she responded well. "We actually played badly. Most everyone admitted that they were flat and we couldn't figure out how to turn it around," Moore said. "What saved us is that the other team was playing worse than we were. We just had our moments and were lucky to hold them off." The Kicks are members of the women's division of the Utah Soccer Association, playing teams from Orem to Logan. The Kicks play split seasons with nine games in the fall and nine in the spring. Due to early bad weather in the mountains, the team will play its first five fall games at home. In the spring they play their last four games at home. The Kicks' next game will be at the Park City High School field Sept. 21 at 1 : 30 p.m. against Berlin. Coach Moore said more women are needed for the team and anyone interested can contact him at 649-6407 or stop by for practice Sept. 19, at 6 p.m. .-.r.., - - ...
