Show Letters positive intermingling with the students; his warm and concerned approach to educational edu-cational administration. We need more people like Dr. Schiller in the Park City School District. Perhaps Dr.. Schiller's communicative skills, intelligence, intelli-gence, sense of humor, fair practices, questioning mind, innovative educational programs pro-grams and leadership qualities quali-ties are a threat to you. They should not be. It is these attributes to which our children are exposed. Do not deprive them of this man. Reinstating and supporting support-ing Dr. Schiller is reaffirming reaffirm-ing your concern for the children of Park City. Debby & Donovan Symonds McComb Applauds Dear Editor: I applaud the efforts and actions taken by staff, students and citizens at Tuesday night's school board meeting. This is truly an example of participating democracy, of the new belief in power through networking rather than power by hierarchy. hierar-chy. It is refreshing to see people who can and will speak their own thoughts, instead of mindlessly parroting parrot-ing someone else's. It is gratifying to know that even under threats, people are still willing to take a stand and defend personal beliefs. Even a wise fifteen year old I know recognizes how difficult diffi-cult it is to be different, to buck peer pressure, and to resist having other people's attempt to control your life. - I applaud all those who will not compromise their convictions. "Vive la difference!" There in lies our strength and potential for growth. Nancv McComb fellow classmates and the rest of the audience at the 8th grade graduation exercises exer-cises of C.W.M.S. last year "The faculty at C.W.M.S. really seems to enjoy the professions they have chosen as well as the friendships they have made with each other. There is a true spirit of caring here. ' Can this be the same "unruly and divided staff" that I have been hearing about? As a concerned parent I strive daily to provide my children with as much stability, support and opportunity oppor-tunity in their lives as I possibly can in order that they might better prepare themselves to become self confident, responsible, productive pro-ductive adults. How possibly can my goal much less theirs be achieved when this educational system is in a constant state of turmoil? It is the opinion of my son, a sixth grader at T.M.M.S. that "if the school board fires Dr. Schiller, they are not only making a big mistake. But they are really dumb! Dr. Schiller is a caring, dedicated, extraordinary educator. Our kids are truly "his kids." I implore you to right this outrageous wrong by renewing his contract for the coming year so that our children may continue to blossom and grow under his excellent guidance. Patti Brace Park City Appreciated Dear Editor: Thank you Park City citizens for standing up for Dr. Schiller as well as the innovative quality education he represents and we expect for our children. As parents, it is especially reassuring to know that the community as a whole is willing to accept the responsibility for the education of our children. As concerned citizens, taxpayers, taxpay-ers, and parents we have demonstrated our insistance for quality education and our belief in the democratic process. The public has spoken -clearly, concisely. Park City School Board, have you . listened to your constituents? consti-tuents? Park City School Board, have . you acted in behalf of the best interest of our children? Jean Anne Holcomb Steve Holcomb Mary E. Austin Schiller Defended Dear Editor: Dear School Board Mem bers: I have never written a letter to the editor or to the school board before. But then, I have never before lived in an area where the superintendent of the school board deems it necessary to fire the principal of various schools with such regularity. It is most unfortunate that a man of such high caliber as Dr. Brian Schiller needs to be defended and supported at this time. While professionalism profes-sionalism and dedication to the educational system is indeed the issue here. Dr. Schiller and his performance is not! My personal experiences experi-ences as per several issues during the past school year were in every instance carefully thought out and expertly handled by . this man, using as his criteria the welfare of the children under his expert guidance. The high quality of the entire staff of T.M.M.S. eminates a 'total feeling of ' team-work and comraderie. As so succinctly put by my daughter daugh-ter as she addressed her Schiller Supported Dear Editor: Dear Members of the School Board: We are parents of a middle school student, civic-minded citizens and intelligent individuals. in-dividuals. We take issue with your recent decision not to renew the contract of Principal Princi-pal Brian Schiller. We feel strongly this decision is a bad one. We feel strongly that the decision does not reflect the attitudes and feelings of your constituency. consti-tuency. We urge you to reverse your decision. As frequent visitors to the Treasure Moutain Middle School, we have been witness wit-ness to Dr. Schiller's exceptional excep-tional skills: his rapport with the teachers, staff and students is unprecedented in this school district; his constant participation in school activities programs, " and classes; his consistently Hang In There Dear Edit in I attended the Park City District Board Meeting last night and I would like to publically make the following personal statements: (1) To the 500 concerned citizens of the Park City Please turn to page 1 2A education my child is getting and not whether this district hierarchy has complete control con-trol of the teachers and principals. They're human beings - we don't live in a military state - or do we? Stop the politics and let Dr. Schiller and his staff get . on with what they do best -education. Let's not go backwards again! Listen to the people, represent us, do you job. Stop being so deaf and blind. Open Our Eyes, Ears, and Minds! Taxpayer and Concerned Parent Danielle Bean schiller writes Dear Editor: Dear Park City: Thank you! Brian Schiller More Letters Continued from Page 2A School District... Thank you for your overwhelming support sup-port for Dr. Schiller. Please -I urge you to hang in there. Attend meetings, write letters, let-ters, continue to supportive until we see the unjust treatment of Dr. Schiller remedied and he is reinstated. reinstat-ed. (2) To the staff of the Treasure Mtn. Middle School... I want to say your 100 overwhelming and wholehearted support of Dr Schiller was a positive tribute to a good principal. Continue to educate our children in the fine manner which you have displayed the past 1 xh years and know that we the parents and citizens of Park City hear your cries. You are not alone! (3) To Dr. Schiller: I would like to say we are sorry that a good administrator loved by staff, students and parents has to be put- through this trying, painful ordeal -please don't be disheartened - we need your innovative, caring, honest administration administra-tion in the district. We are behind you! (4) To Dr. Goodworth: I want to say I have lived in this school district for 5'2 years and have seen nothing but chaos, disruption, and when appropriate. Now, Webster defines news as "recent intelligence regarding any event, esp. as presented by a news media." me-dia." Opinion, he says, is a "judgement or belief that is' stronger then an impression but less firm than positive knowledge." Your newspaper has one section for "recent intelligence" intelli-gence" and another section for "a judgement". In most issues, opinions and news have been treated separately. separate-ly. However, in the lead article of your last paper they somehow got tossed into the same pot and came out smelling quite unprofessional. unprofes-sional. I am part of that public for which you write. We are an intelligent public. You are an intelligent staff. I take pride in forming my own opinions. I look to the Park Record to . provide me with the facts. 1 do hope you promptly resume that practice, and let your public resume theirs. Barbara Felt tired of politics Dear Editor: Park City people rallied last night at the Park City School Board meeting to air their support of Dr. Schiller and ask the Board to reinstate him. This was not a small group but five hundred people. I have lived in Park City 5V2 years and I'm so mad that Superintendent Good-worth Good-worth and his board have again disrupted the education educa-tion of my child. Education and children are not their primary concern but more important is controlling and constant political turmoil. Does the board not realize that it takes time to pull a staff together and get a school working in a positive direction but we change principals in this district like the "Changing of the Seasons." Sea-sons." It says something when 100 of the middle school staff stands behind their principal and I personally perso-nally have worked with this' staff and seen it totally divided. What a great accomplishment and yet this does not seem to be important to our district hierarchy - Dr. Goodworth. How can we' ever work on curriculum when we're constantly con-stantly in a state of change. It just becomes ridiculous! This year - if Dr. Schiller is not reinstated - we will be looking for two principals and will lose a lot of excellent teachers. What a sad state of affairs and wjio suffers the most - the Park City students. This is just another example of how our Superintendent Superin-tendent seems to feel threatened threa-tened by progressive, innovative inno-vative people. We're tired of this and we're finally speaking speak-ing out. This has happened too many ' times and Dr. Schiller is just another scapegoat - he isn't the issue! , I was angry and sad last night sitting there listening to the positive input give . about the middle school staff and Dr. Schiller. The school board did not hear what the public was saying. At times they looked bored. Now the president of the board has said the group was stacked. How can you stack five hundred educated people? If this was done, it was an amazing accomplishment and the important fact is these people were there and they wanted the board to listen to them. Obviously, Mr. Avise does not think we are able to make competent decisions by ourselves and that he should make them for us. Wrong! It's time for Superintendent Superinten-dent Goodworth and the board to listen. We feel you've made bad decision and it was not in the best interest of our children and their education. My priority is with the quality of litigation under your leadership. leader-ship. It's time to stop passing thev buck and take a good hard look at what has really caused all the dissention in this school district. Principals Princi-pals come and go, board members come and go and you Dr. Goodworth stay and so do the problems. Therefore There-fore I conclude, that you are the cause of dissention in the district. (5) To the Park City School Board... I want to say Dr. Schiller's reinstatement is not your personal choice to irake. You are elected by the people of this district to represent them and it should be very obvious to you that these 500 citizens who attended last nights meeting want : no demand - Dr. Schiller's reinstatement and you as their elected officials must represent their wishes. It's a simple choice - the only choice - the people's choice - listen to us!! Gini Smith biased reporting Dear Editor: I've been in Park City three years now. One of my first acquaintances was the Park Record.' The quality of news it brought me was outstanding. It was clear, pr,6cis'eV and even clever |
