Veilands, born in Riga, Latvia, emigrated to the United States at age six. He studied art and photography at Southern Illinois Univeristy and began his career working as a cinematographer with an educational documentary film company, Communico, Inc., winners of The Silver Phoenix and The Chris Award. Mixing metaphors and mediums is Veilands' main interest. He is fascinated by light light bouncing bounc-ing into a camera, off a person, an idea, or a neon tube. Hal Larsen explores the Southwest landscape, the canyons, the high desert. Each mixed media painting is a personal reaction to the land. He uses oriental and handmade papers for the collage additions to his artwork. art-work. Opening reception for the artists and their exniDics will be Sunday, April 1 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Main and Little Galleries. Reception is free and open to the public.
