Show High school counselor hired Jerry Fiat has been hired to take over the counseling position at Park City High School next fall. Fiat has a master's degree in education psychology from Brigham Young University. , He is a teacher and head football coach at Bingham High School and has been on the faculty there for six years. Fiat is also a former assistant coach at Iowa State University ( 1970-73). and a graduate assistant coach at BYU (1973-75). New teachers for P.C. schools Two new teachers have been hired for the high school, and Susan Helton and Don Johnson have received new teaching assignments at the Treasure Mountain Middle School. Helton, who currently teaches sixth grade at the middle school, will move into the eighth-grade math position formerly held by Brian Salmond. Don Johnson, who left the Park City School District last year, is returning to teach the sixth grade. Johnson previously taught social studies and received the middle school Teacher of the Year award in 1983-84. George Fischer, a recent graduate of the University of Utah, will join the hight school faculty to teach biology. Fischer has a bachelor's degree in biology and a master's degree in physics. He was a student teacher at Bountiful High School for a year. Scott Rogers is currently a teacher at Mountain View High School in Orem and will be teaching math at the Park City High School beginning next fall. Rogers majored in math at the University of Utah and has four years of teaching experience. Athletic fields up for bid May 1 "We have been assured there are no toxic soils on the middle school grounds, and so we are proceeding with our landscaping plans," said school superintendent Tony Mitchell. The recently revised plans, which will include an obstacle course, a r playground, two baseball diamonds and a soccer field, will be ready to go out to bid May 1. The students should be able to use the fields next fall, he said. V ' .1 PTA wins award f". ; , The Parley's Park Parent Teacher Association was chosen by the Utah ; Congress of Parents and Teachers as one of the best rural local units in the Jr. . . state. i Barbara Stottern, president of the elementary school PTA, said the award c v." is the result of a lot of enthusiastic parent support. Stottern will attend a s ' j banquet at Brigham Young University on April 24 to accept the award on cV--. T behalf of the local chapter. , ; ..,.. 1 Athletics are for weekends ; : park City High School won a scheduling battle in Region Nine this week. . ; : : The region board of managers acceded to the school's request to confine all athletic events to Friday and Saturday. With the exception of junior basketball which will be played on Thursdays, the school was successful in eliminating all midweek competition, said Dave Hanscom of the high school community council. The high school pushed for the change to reduce athletic interruptions to the academic curriculum. |
