Show w Walk all Together y Youth Leads W Way ay m Walk together talk together together to to- gether gether rv rr Oiye oples of the earth I IThen I Then and only then Shall ye have peace This year 21 foreign students from 19 countries are living the motto of the American Field Service and are leaving their mark on hundreds of students students students stu stu- stu- stu dents and adults in 14 high schools that they are attending in Utah Although they are here for only one year they will not soon be forgotten by many and especially those families in whose homes they h. h are living IN HONOR of these young Ambassadors of goodwill Gov Calvin L. L Rampton has proclaimed proclaimed proclaimed pro pro- claimed March 2 through 8 as American Field Service Week Mr Bartlett Wicks who is regional representative for said that this is the year for the program in Utah During this time foreign students from over 40 countries countries countries coun coun- tries have attended our high schools In addition Utah students have gone abroad for either an eight week stay with witha a family abroad or one year of schooling in m a t high gh school This may seem like a slow way of developing world wide friendships but it must be a very sure way THE TIlE program was started at Bountiful high the second year that it was a full fledged high school Mrs Charles tram gram who was PTA president at that time helped to start the enthusiasm for the program That year they had hadin hadin hadin in their home Toni Gay from Singapore and the Allen Barber Barber Barber Bar Bar- ber family had Heather Napier from England Since that time we have had 19 students from 14 different countries in both Bountiful and Viewmont high schools This represents in hard cold dollars and cents to just bring these students here in the neighborhood neighbor neighbor- hood of and all of this was raised by the schools or donated by various clubs churches and organizations I ON THE TIlE other side of the program which is called Americans Americans Americans Ameri Ameri- cans Abroad we have sent seven students five for the summer and two on the winter winter winter win win- ter school program Mr Robert Darger Danger who is the Salt Lake Area representative representative describes the program this way The programs program's values are fold two first that the student through meaningful involvement in an American family schools and community may gain an understanding of the US U.S. its people customs ideals and educational system The foreign foreign foreign for for- eign student is a gift to human human- ity sty THE uTHE SECOND value is that the family school and community community community com com- learn about a foreign I country its people family life politics education customs I and ideals I The real value of having an student in ones one's home is isI not felt until a year or 01 so after after after af af- I ter they have gone and the important things have been I sifted out in the minds of those in the American family The George Bishop family says that they feel that they have acquired new kinfolk after having had two boys from Bolivia and Switzerland in their home i THIS TIns YEAR YEAH we have in our ourI I high school students from four different countries They want to share knowledge of their country with people in the community and are anxious to come to any clubs bs or gathering to do this Anyone interested may contact Mrs Donna Bingham or Mrs George Bishop |
