Area resident and go former member of the tfe Corridor Study Committee, u -Amanda Peterson, said she tr supported the results of that J study. "We felt the corridor a should be carefully studied ca and respected and it was not J our intention to spot zone ta along that corridor which M rjj tt serves as the main entrance- g way to Park City." d" Salt Lake resident David Lyon spoke for the owners of " h the property adjacent to o County Commissioner Bill JJJ Wallin's property when he compared what could happen to the roadway to what happened with 33rd South in Salt Lake City. "Once you break zoning no one else has any reason not to develop their property either" he said. But Decker's counter argument ar-gument had to do with being treated "equally". The audience was overwhelmingly overwhelming-ly opposed to Decker's plan and applauded when the Summit County Planning Commission voted unanimously unani-mously to deny Decker's request. Opponents, including Park ; City officials and Park City Planning Director Bill Ligety, had charged that Decker's plan amounted to spot-zoning along the highway high-way and would have opened the door to other developers wishing .to have commercial ventures along the busy thoroughfare. Those views were expressed ex-pressed by several residents during the meeting which had been moved to Snyder-ville Snyder-ville to give residents an Residents Oppose Strip Zoning county master plan be changed to accommodate Decker's proposal. Ligety said he hoped the commission commis-sion would stand pat on their latest decision through any . possible appeal process. Ligety may nave been reading Decker's mind. Decker was visibly disappointed dis-appointed at the outcome and said he would appeal it. The process could end up in court says Decker. Park City teacher Sue Worley talked about the importance of preserving the aesthetics of the area, a point brought out during previous hearings on Decker's request held in Coalville. A member of Van Waggoner Associates clarified a position posi-tion they had stated at one of those previous meetings by reading a letter during Tuesday's session. The traffic engineering firm said they were opposed to the commercial development proposed by Decker due to the traffic impacts it would cause in the area but would be available to help come up with a solution," however, it stated "denial is the best solution." Prior to the final vote, Decker reiterated the development devel-opment that had already taken place citing eight examples. He said he had been a lone-time advocate of not sub-dividing along .the highway. He. said he had suggested it "to avoid small parcels."
