Show elks camporee here fri.-sun. The Park City Elks Lodge is ' sponsoring a Camporee this weekend at Park West. Elks from all over Utah will park and camp in the ski area lot and share in dances, dinners, and raffles. Exalted Ruler Duncan Silver expects 150-200 families for the weekend's festivities; they will come from as far as St George and Moab. He explained, "We're a fraternal organization and this gives members a chance to get together and have fun. It's also one of the few sponsored events to include the whole family." A whole range of children's activities acti-vities are planned. The annual event, never before held in Park City, will hopefully raise money, through raffles, for the Elks' many service activities. These include sponsorship of a hoop shoot and an essay contest for youngsters, entertainment in the Veterans Hospital, donation of Christmas gifts to needy groups, and the like. The Park City lodge has about 100 members, and Silver Sil-ver estimated that there are 12,000 Elks in the state. Silver said local merchants are supporting the Elks well; almost everyone contacted has donated to the raffle. The camporee will last from Friday through Sunday. |
