Coach Gail McBride and her talented - gymnastics team knocked off eight competing I-A schools during Saturday's state meet. North Sevier finished in second place, and ' Duchesne took third. "It reallv didn't hit me at first." said third-year Coach McBride. "1 was just so shocked," -Although the local gymnasts gym-nasts were favored to take state. Gail McBride became the first coach at the High School to lead her girls team, to the state championship. Bruce Reid accomplished the same feat recently in leading the bovs basketball team to their first state championship. Teams competing in Saturday's Satur-day's meet included Duchesne. Duch-esne. Gunnison. North Rich. North Seviere. South Rich. Tintic. Wasatch Academy and VVavne. Competitors performed per-formed in either class 3(be-uinner) 3(be-uinner) or optional (advanced) and included parallel bars, floor exercises, beam and vault. Park High's. Susan Ma-honey Ma-honey took first place in optional bars, and teammate. Lisa Thaller "also captured a tl rs t pi ace i n optional beam . "You work hard day after dav." she said, "but in one split. second, it can be won or lost." Park High's gymnastics team is young: only one senior. Carrie Morecraft. will graduate this year.
