Show city to buy land In order to increase the off-street parking capacity of the Swede Alley area, the city is negotiating the purchase of four parcels of property in that district. The four properties are: the 70x220 parcel owned by Tom Mathews on which the "Chinese Laundry" now sits; approximately 7 Vi lots owned respectively by Don Millican and Jack Sweeney which lie immediately north of the New Deal Market on Upper Main Street; and a parcel owned by the Prescott Estate between Mama Theresa's and Mileti's which will be used for a small park and a covered walk way from Swede Alley to Main Street. Included in a separate transaction is apparently the New Deal Market which will most likely be raised in order to provide a more adequate entrance into the Swede Alley parking area. |
