Show .......... - x --. .- .. , New Giant Electrical Locomotive Installed by Utah Copper Company ' Here is a replica of the new s'lant electric, locomotive of the type being installed by the , Utah Copper Company Com-pany at Bingham. This new loconi -tive will take the place of the now used steam locomotives and will make vast improvement in the facility facili-ty and manner in which mountains of ore will be handled in the future. The new loccpiotives weigh some 75 tons and can be ballasted up to 90 tons lor about 180,000 pounds. They have a hauling capacity of 12 cars weighing approximately 25 tons up a grade of 4 at a speed of 10- miles per hour. . There 18 now 20 of these locomolJvea either installed or preparel for and there will be 36 ultimately installed in Bingham. At present there has been constructed some 30 miles of trolley and the estimate is set at 45 miles of trolley to take care of the complete installation. J; The entire Bingham Copper hill will be electrified electri-fied as rapidly as the motors can ", installed. j The locomotives , are operated through a bank of 12000 K C A transformers trans-formers installed at the Magna Central Cen-tral Station. J These transformers transform the power from 130000 volts to 44000 volts. The 44000 volts are then tranmlted to Bingham over two constructed lines. Ultimately there will be installed at Bingham eight 1000 K W Sychronous converters convert-ers for furnishing direct current energy en-ergy at 750 volts. This energy will h tn tha trnllav ovatoni and will ba collected by means of a pantagnph or a side arm trolley located on the locomotive. The converters arJ th last word in automatio switch construction con-struction and are of most marvelous constructs n, requiring no operato-s. The ultimate cost of the complete installation in-stallation will be approximately $3,-000,000.00. $3,-000,000.00. The entire electrical engineering and technical work of the Installation is and has been under the direct. charKe of the local Utah Copper C nv pany corps of electrical engineers Under the direction of Mr. C. W, Cor-fleld Cor-fleld who is the chief of the electrical department. . , FV! |
