Vermont November Novem-ber 26-29 in final preparation for the upcoming racing season. Those invited to participate in the four day camp are Cory Carlson. 18, Minnetonka. Minn.. Albert Innamorati, 19, Clinton. Mass.. Tim ltin. 21, Hanover. Han-over. N.H., Crawford Lyons, 18. Easl Burke. Vt.. Mack Lyons, 22 Hanover, N.H.. Andy Shaw, 16, Stovve, Vt.. Mark Smith. 17, Rochester. Vt.. Scott Smith, 17. Killing-ton. Killing-ton. Vt.. and Dan Stripp, 17, of Old Forge. N.Y. "Since, ibis will be our final slalom development camp of the season, it will consist mainly of tactical training in preparation for the Holiday Classic races which will begin in early December." said Dave Dur-rance. Dur-rance. the U.S. Ski Team-Coach Team-Coach directing the camp. To identify athletes for invitation into the development develop-ment program, the USST office maintains files on prospective athletes from all around the country. In addition. USST talent scouts remain in constant contact with divisional offices and associate coaches in order to keep on top of rising young racers. Divisional races. Junior Jun-ior Olympics and training camps serve as good arenas for observation of such talent. "The athletes attending this camp are the ones who through the year have shown to be the strongest skiers. The ones who, through all of our camps, have emerged at the top." added Durrance. Competitive opportunities are numerous for these young athletes during the racing season. On the national level, there are various divisional competitions competi-tions such as the North American Trophy Scries, while on the international level, there are the European Junior, the F1S B races, the Buropa Cup and the World Cup events. Selection criteria for the development team depends upon such factors as age, number of accumulated points, rate of improvement, competitive record against peers and older competitors, attitude, diligence, coachab-ility coachab-ility and ability to function positively with a team structure. The philosophy of the USST is to select those athletes in the United States whose talent and potential can be developed in such a manner as to compete with the world's best skiers at the World Cup level. |
