Show Two City Groups Insist On Publishing Separate Guides includes design work, layout, paste-up and typesetting. The rates for sale will decrease according accord-ing to bulk. The "Indulge in Park City" guide is going to press no later than November 1, and 1000 copies will be distributed distribut-ed by Thanksgiving. Last Wednesday, the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Commerce voted to continue publication of a visitor's guide for Park City, despite the fact that two freelance free-lance designers, Leslie Miller Mil-ler and Ellen Katz have been working on a similar project since early September. A special meeting of the Main Street Association held Friday decided to support the free-lance booklet. The proponents pro-ponents of each commercial commer-cial guide book claim that their publications will serve different needs. Miller and Katz, said they decided to publish their booklet to be entitled, "Indulge "In-dulge in Park City Utah", because, "There was a need for a fine graphic representation represent-ation of Park City a quality piece and we wanted to see Park City work as a unit with the Plaza, Main Street and eventually Prospector :- . . . ELLF.N KATZ AND LESLIE MILLER lodges in Park City will be printed in exchange for purchase pur-chase of copies appropriate to size of the lodge. Lodges may be advertised more prominently at a later date. Rates are $40 per quarter page or $125 for a full page. "p. the beg iningof September, Septem-ber, the two youngwomen approached ap-proached a member of the Chamber whom they said, "wasn't ready to listen to any serious business proposals pro-posals at that time. A quality qual-ity piece takes time to be designed, laid out, and printed, print-ed, so we began our project in due time. We weren't aware of a proposed guide by the Chamber as we hadn't seen or heard of one, " so they hoped the Chamber would be receptive to their proposed all-inclusive guide. "We volunteered our services ser-vices on a project to promote Park City in which the Chamber Cham-ber could benefit financially and also in terms of a total concept for Park City. They offered their publication pub-lication to the Chamber at cost (50?) so the Chamber could make 50? off the $1.00 retail price of every copy sold. They further offered to hotels and lodges which request re-quest it, and Fleck hopes copies will be handed out with room keys. Miller and Katz said their distribution response has been favorable. "We have committments in contract form from the Lodging Association, As-sociation, and verbal commitments com-mitments from several other large organizations including includ-ing some in Salt Lake." They feel the $1.00 price tag is "totally viable for a week in Park City. This is a way to bring revenue into Park City for shops and hotels, thereby there-by eliminating any future costs for reprinting. The booklet will also serve as a souvenir item from Park City." Fleck explained that the Chamber "A Visitor's Guide to ParkCityDiningand Other Pleasures" will include ed- nesses with either 18 page ($12) or 14 page ($24) ads. Then there will be a restaurant restaur-ant section of full page reproductions re-productions of menus for $50. One dime per copy to defer de-fer the Chamber's postage costs will be requestedfrom shop owners who wish to carry the publication. Five thousand copies will be printed and Fleck said the guide will come out before Thanksgiving. The appearance will be similar to last year's guide with cream -colored 8 l2 by 11 inch paper and Times Roman Ro-man print. The "Indulge in Park City Utah" guide will be about 44 pages including approximately approximat-ely six pages of history from the discovery of mininghere to up-to-date happenings. Bob Fleck, director of the Chamber of Commerce reported re-ported that his group decided decid-ed to continue publication of a visitor's guide, because, "We had done it last year and people have been writing, writ-ing, asking for them. We will use the booklet when groups request information about Park City. It's a good tool to help bring people here and to provide a service to businesses. "Although the girls' format for-mat is similar, it doesn't meet the same needs for the overall community. Ours will have wider distribution at less charge to advertisers. advertis-ers. We're not trying to discourage dis-courage them, we're doing this as a service to local businesses. Our advertising advertis-ing rates reflect the exact printing cost so the Chamber Cham-ber will make no money on the booklet. The rate is the same for non-Chamber members as for members," Fleck emphasized. em-phasized.
