Show Pressme Vessel Hearing Oct. 16 After finding the plant closed on his first visit, a representative of the Fire Marshall's office completed an investigation of the Pressure Pres-sure Vessel plant last Wednesday. Wed-nesday. Bill Lukins who conducted the investigation, told THE RECORD that he round no " monumental hazards" at the plant and felt that what problems they did have could easily be corrected by the firm and further, Pressure Vessels seemed very willing wil-ling to cooperate. "As long as Pressure Vessel is willing wil-ling to cooperate with our office" said Mr. Lukins, 'and make the recommended sa fety changes, we have no recourse re-course and most likely no action will be taken by us. Lukins admitted that lie was unable to witness the plant's quenching operation which has apparently been the cause of the fires, due to the fact that Pressure Vessel has suspended the operation until more adequate ade-quate fire extinguishing equipment can be installed. "Any industry will have a given amount of fires" commented com-mented the inspector, "They have apparently haye had only three recorded fires since 1967 which is not a particulary bad average." A hoai'.ug st'hivliii-jd for .ast Thursday to discuss whether or not the operation operat-ion of Pressure Vessel Product's Pro-duct's Park City Plant poses a significant enough health hazard to warrant its closure clo-sure by the City has been postponed until this Thursday, Thurs-day, Oct. 1G at 9 p.m. The meeting was postponed post-poned after Doug Hanks, head of Pressure Vessel's Park City plant maintained that he had not been given adequate ade-quate notice prior to the hearing to enable him to prepare pre-pare a presentation. The motion to seek a temporary tem-porary restraining order, injoining the firm from further fur-ther operations passed at a City Council meeting over a month ago. The Council felt that in light of several recent fires at the plant, the operation posed a significant hazard to the community, thus justifying justi-fying an investigation into its closure. The Council further requested requ-ested an investigation by the State Fire Marshall's Office as well as OS HA ( the Occupational Oc-cupational S afety Hazards Act ), |
