Show Intruders Are Blamed for Fire Which Destroyed Langton Home be destroyed so quickly by someone's carelessness or maliciousness. After the fire neighbors and passersby reported that they were under the impression., that the Langtons had been in the house because of occasional lights which were visible at times. A careless or malicious intruder in-truder is suspected to be the cause of the fire which destroyed des-troyed the Langton home on Woodside Avenue on December Decem-ber 15. Asst. State Fire Marshal Steve Kennedy made a thorough inspection of the debris on Dec. 21, and ruled out electrical malfunctions mal-functions or gas explosion as the cause. The origin of the fire was determined to be in the front area of the house where the sofa was located. It was here the worst damage occurred with all of the joists and studs completely com-pletely burned out. The area in which the water heater and the furnace were located was the least damaged. Mr. Kennedy estimated that the fire smoldered approximately approx-imately 14 hours before it used all the oxygen in the house and finally exploded the windows win-dows upstairs. The bolt of the lock in the back door was pushed push-ed flush with the door jam while it was still locked from the inside. in-side. Mr. Langton has spent six ' years since the home was built doing painstaking carpentry work. He laid all the upstairs flooring, the outside decking, and built the small back porch. He had built many bookcases and storage areas, and had just finished paneling the upstairs fireplace area with built-in closets. The Langtons had felt secure in keepingmany personal treasures, treas-ures, including all of their ski equipment, in the home because the neighbors had always been so friendly and watched their home.
