Show overseen by tall palm trees with the dried fronds hanging down like drooping petticoats. The mocking birds put on a show doing their act on the high wire, and a snail marched sedately across the grass carrying his house on his back. We drove to Laguna Beach and ate at the famous Victor Hugo Inn an experience to remember. re-member. And I saw (from a distance, of course), the western White House at San Clemente where our president spends time. There is a huge Nuclear Reactor Re-actor Center on the coast at San Onofre and we passed acres and acres of poinsettia, geranium ger-anium and tomato plants. Mrs. Pidgeon and Virginia (who came down for a fewdays) and I toured Sea World one beautiful day and loved every minute of it. One of the highlights of my vacation was visiting the Museum Mus-eum of Man where Vicki is Curator Cur-ator of Exhibits. They have recently re-cently opened a new exhibit called Communications and the wax figures she has created are fantastic. She has set up an old time telegraph office with the operator in charge and he looks like he could talk!Sheisso VERY talented-erjndian figures fig-ures are famous for their realism; real-ism; she recently received a personal gift from the Governor of Mexico for what he termed "your help in publicizing the good about the Mexican people." Yes, this was a vacation to remember as I've said many times before-there is NOTHING NOTH-ING like good friends just sitting sit-ting around and visiting was fun and the San Diego area is fast becoming a favorite of mine. Bits and Pieces By Eleanor Bennett Did you ever have a vacation where you did so much and saw so much that you can't figure out what was best? That's just what happened to me I had eight days as near perfection as possible. I visited visit-ed friends in California, enjoyed en-joyed regular tourist attractions, attrac-tions, went toSwap Meets (which I love) and drove many times along the Pacific Ocean highway high-way marvelling each and every time at the beauty of the coast line--rugged in parts, sandy at spots, -the surf pouring in long graceful swells or pounding down in a froth of boiling surf-frightening surf-frightening exciting! I "waded" in the edge one day letting the water and sand mix together under my feet. The tide pools created by the retreating sea hold many beauties. Many of my readers will remember re-member Nina Cross Pidgeon she and her famous unalike twin daughters came to the Ladies May luncheon a year ago. We all became instant friends. I visited the blond twin, Virginia, in San Rafael last October, then saw Mrs. Pidgeon and the dark twin, Vicki, while I was in Lemon Grove in April, but this time was best because I stayed with Vicki at her new home in La Jolla. And before I get to raving about the beauty of the area, let me tell you about her dog! It's a Basenji and her name is Theba. A Basenji does not bark and has a " rolled up" tail-she tail-she is sleek and alert and even though she doesn't bark, she talks! And believe it or not, she prefers to drink water from a goblet rather than a bowl! The flowers and bushes seem at their peak-oleanders as tall as houses; bougainvillea so bright in the sunlight. Juniper trees were twisted as if in agony and the zig zag cypress trees were everywhere. Vicki has an assortment of tropical plants jasmin, gar--denias, tangelo trees, holly bushes and much more all |
