Show Raging Blizzard Closes School; Miss Gertsch Has Full Schedule -PCHS-Mike Watts placed fifth in the giant slalom at Sun Valley, Idaho. Simmons, Principal Prin-cipal of PCHS, dismissed school an hour early last Wednesday because of the blizzard conditions con-ditions from Park City to Summit Sum-mit Park. In some places the wind was so bad that the bus drivers couldn't see the road. The buses had to stop at the entrance to Summit Park because be-cause the snow was too deep on the road for travel. The stronger strong-er and older students had to carry the smaller and handicapped handi-capped students to their homes. The same conditions prevailed prevail-ed Thursday morning but school was in session throughout the day. When the teachers came Thursday morning, they found to their dismay that the parking lot was full of four -foot high drifts. The custodian, Mr. Wheelwright spent the day shoveling the parking lot. First of all she teaches a 10-12 10-12 Phase 2 English class, Right now her English class is giving oral book reports. This gives the students an opportunity to speak in front of the class as well as prepare them to speak in front of various groups in the future. In the past they have been studying short stories from literature lit-erature units. One thing Miss Gertsch has been doing all term is to have all students practice with ink daily, to improve their penmanship. pen-manship. Students have found that practice writing with pen is much harder. Miss Gertsch said, "The improvement is great, and I hope it will continue." con-tinue." Her eighth grade English class is working alongthesame line as 10-12, but the book reports re-ports are brief and the daily writing is more of a challenge to improve. Miss Gertsch teaches an Arts and Crafts class to the seventh grade girls. In this class, the girls are learning how to do Swedish embroidery. The girls have made many beautiful gifts in this class. Another art class taught by Miss Gertsch is for the seventh grade. Here they are learning to advertise by using posters. To do this they have learned a lettering skill.
